8 splashes of autumnal inspiration to prepare for the season ahead

Without wanting to scare you too much, we thought we’d team up with Opiflor to offer a gentle reminder that the next peak is just 131 days away. We won’t mention its name yet (though Selfridges have already kitted out an entire floor dedicated to it), but we will share a range of floral design, plant and product inspiration to put you in an autumnal spirit, slowly easing you in to the seasons ahead.

These rattan nests are a woodsy way to welcome one of the country’s most stunning seasons. You could hold bird’s nest filling workshops for children or fill with foam and flowers for quirky impulse buys. You’ll find loads of fitting additions in Opiflor’s autumn catalogue, like wooden acorns and roots spiderwood.

The catalogue also features a range of moss items, in all shapes and sizes. Perfect for increasingly popular woodland styled events or as unusual containers for seasonal planted arrangements.

Birch and moss bowls are another special way to display florals, we love the way clematis, lilac colours and autumn leaves bring the season into this design.

If you’re into beautiful pots, Opiflor has an enviable ceramics range, with gems like these looking like they’ve just come from an artisan pottery.

We’re seeing lots of cement trends for the coming season. Both these unique, antique-looking water tanks, and these smaller cement bowls and pots are made with the heavy-duty material. Cement makes a striking texture contrast when filled with concoctions of deep and vibrant greens.

Baskets and crates will never lose their touch, we’ve seen stunning florist creations where they’re filled with wild, meadow blooms. These Harz terracotta pots match the trend beautifully, as though they’ve just resurfaced from a secret garden.

Such a simple but oh-so pretty idea; rose hips bunched en masse in this glass tea light holder, with a round of massed carnation in its larger counterpart.

One way to add character to the shop; scuffed draws filled with natural goodies make for a far more interesting walk-in experience and Opiflor’s version won’t break the bank like a real antique dresser might.
