From 28th to 30th October 2015 Colombia’s famous trade show, Proflora, will host the very first ‘America Cup Proflora’ in Bogota, Colombia.
International Florist Association Florint, together with with Asocolflores (The Association of Colombian Flower Exporters) and the Iberoamerican Floral Art School – Escuela Iberoamericana de Arte Floral (EIAF) will organise the competition, featuring just ten expert floral designers from the region. The cup will have five themes, each related to the rich floral and cultural heritage of Colombia, tagged ‘the land of flowers’.
Organisers say, “The Americas Cup Proflora is a testament to Florint’s internationalisation, Asocolflores’ tireless promotion of Colombia’s 1600 beautiful varieties of flowers to the region and the world, and EIAF’s quest to keep on improving floral art in Latin America.”
Whilst the competition takes place, each partner will also showcase three key demonstrations by leading Spanish-speaking florists. On Wednesday 28th October Eduard Maynegra – the current Spanish champion who will also be present at Florint’s Europa Cup in April 2016 – will demonstrate today’s trends in wedding bouquet design.
Then, on Thursday 29th October EIAF floral designers Adolfo Cojulun and Marilú Urquiza, from Guatemala and Mexico will demonstrate the current trends and designs in event floristry in South and Central America. On Friday 30th October Dani Santamaria will give a demonstration on the floral design of large structures.
The Americas Cup Proflora 2015 is the first edition of this competition, which will take place at every Proflora trade fair from now on.
It is also the first competition officially backed by Florint and under Florint’s strict rules and regulations on the American continent. Plus it will be first competition in America that will officially employ Florint’s trusted judging system – also used recently at the Interflora World Cup in Berlin.
Proflora takes place every two years and is the perfect place to be amazed by over 1600 floral varieties Colombia has to offer; stunning flowers – new and old — all used at the highest possible level.
At the next edition of Proflora, in 2017, Florint, Asocolflores and EIAF will be taking the competition to the next level by opening it up to the rest of the American continent – to create the first official America Cup for all florists in the region.
Registration is open to florists from Colombia and other countries in Latin America. There are just ten positions available, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
