Florists compete in front of thousands at BBC Gardeners' World Live!

BBC Gardeners’ World Live has kicked off today and this year the famous show, which welcomes nearly 90,000 visitors, is bringing professional floristry to its huge audience on a new scale.

As part of its anniversary celebrations, the British Florist Association has organised an exciting mix of floristry demonstrations, competitions and a stunning pop-up flower shop to impress visitors at the show.

Overflowing with beautiful flower bouquets and arrangements and an enticing range of cut flowers and foliages, the BFA flower shop will be an irresistible highlight of the show as visitors are invited in to chat to florists, to browse and to buy. And in the BFA Show Draw, one lucky visitor stands to win a sensational BFA Summer Bouquet of 100 stems.

Meanwhile on the Flower Stage, top professional florist, Dennis van Wonderen, will be entertaining and inspiring audiences throughout the four days with his stylish and informative floral demonstrations.

“We are thrilled to be at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2017 celebrating a century of the British Florist Association as the voice of the independent florist,” said Brian Wills-Pope, Chair of the British Florist Association. “And we’re here to give the show’s 88,000 visitors a taste of the floral masterpieces a professional florist can create!”

For the second successive year, the BFA has teamed up with BBC Gardeners’ World Live to stage heats of the prestigious UK Florist of the Year competition live at the show. Taking place on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th June, this is a true battle of champions: the competitors have secured their places by winning either an RHS Chelsea medal or heat, or competing through the WorldSkills UK programme.

Twelve florists will be taking part over the course of the two days and will be faced with the challenge of creating four floral designs:

1.     A flamboyant head adornment to be worn by a dancer at the opening ceremony of the 50th celebrations of BBC Gardeners’ World (brought to show pre-prepared)

  2.     A fantasy floral handbag to be carried at the BBC Gardeners’ World Golden Anniversary party held in the floral marquee (created live at show)

  3.     A foliage cushion to hold the certificate for presentation at the 50th Anniversary Award ceremony of BBC Gardeners’ World (created live at show)
