Floral designers from across the world will discover the destination to innovate, inspire, and impact on their design skills and business knowledge at the upcoming AIFD (American Institute of Floral Designers) National Symposium. Titled ‘Discover’, this year's internationally renowned annual event will take place in Washington D.C. from 30 June until 4 July 2018.

Symposium is a five-day event that provides opportunities for education, networking, food and fun, and this year promises to be a new Symposium experience with even more educational opportunities. The schedule includes not only the expected main stage programmes and hands-on workshops but also newly added creative and business sessions for extra educational opportunities.

The event’s main stage presentations are of the highest-level and crafted by talented international and American designers from across the industry. Here’s an overview of what’s lined up.

  • Holly Heider Chapple will present "Going to the Chapel," a widely creative runway bridal show.
  • "Inspired to Succeed" is built on the foundations of the European Masters Certification program and is presented by the dynamic panel of Hitomi Gilliam AIFD, CFD, Tomas de Bruyne, Agna Maerten EMC, Julia Schmitt AIFD, CFD, EMC and Monica De La Torre EMC.
  • Vonda LaFever AIFD, CFD, PFCI will provide attendees with a look at the flower shop of the future.
  • Interflora World Cup Champion Alex Choi AFD, CFD will wow attendees with his "Less is More" philosophy.

  • Also on the Main Stage this year will be the FTD America's Cup Finals, where the US representative to the 2019 FTD-Interflora-Fleurop World Cup Design Competition will be chosen.
  • Innovative hands-on workshops will be taught by nine talented instructors including the UK’s Caroline Crabb AIFD, CFD teaching "Nature's Bounty."
  • AIFD Symposium is a time when aspiring designers participate in the AIFD Professional Floral Design Evaluation (PFDE) as part of their AIFD's Certified Floral Designer (CFD®) designation, ultimately leading to an invitation to become an accredited member of AIFD. The PFDE will take place on Thursday, June 28th.

More information on workshops, inspire creative sessions, and innovate business sessions can be found on an interactive online brochure at www.aifd.org/symposium2018. Registration to attend the Symposium is open to all floral designers and early registration is encouraged.

Commenting on the event, 2018 Symposium Coordinator Suzie Kostick (AIFD, CFD, CF, PFCI) explains, "Discover is all about connecting and engaging the entire floral industry. Retail florists, mass market floral retailers, wedding and event florists and farmer florists will all gain valuable experience from attending the 2018 Symposium. This is the first time the AIFD Symposium features dedicated educational opportunities that serve such a diverse cross section of our industry.”

“It is also the first time so many educational opportunities are being offered. All these enhancements will make the 2018 AIFD Symposium the place to be, where all floral professionals come together, share their ideas, network with like-minded professionals with different industry backgrounds, be inspired by the some of the most influential designers in the industry and walk away with practical information to help grow their businesses."
