After participating in the Bulbs4Kids flower bulb project, four school classes in different countries around the world have won the 2018 Golden Flower Bulb Award. The winning classes are in the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, and here in the UK in Eastbourne.

In total 2,450 classes of schoolchildren signed up for the Bulbs4Kids flower bulb project, which is an international campaign that aims to acquaint children in primary schools with flower bulbs by means of fun, hands-on activities.

With the goal of making planting flower bulbs exciting, the Bulbs4Kids project included a photo and video competition. To become eligible for the 2018 Golden Flower Bulb Award, more than 1,000 of the participating classes submitted photos and videos, and the winning classes were recently announced:

• England: Ocklynge Junior School (Class 3H) in Eastbourne
• The Netherlands: Protestants Christelijke Basisschool Het Kompas (groep 4), in Krimpen a/d Ijssel
• Germany: Grundschule "Am Mühlberg" (Klasse 4) in Landsberg
• Canada: Fairview Elementary School (Grade 1) in Maple Ridge

Each of these winning classes received a 2018 Golden Flower Bulb Award trophy, a certificate for their classroom, a certificate for each child to take home, and a tulip umbrella.

Registration to participate in the new Bulbs4Kids season is now open, and flower bulb kits are still available for classes in England. Primary teachers can register their class to receive a free flower bulb kit here. They will then get a confirmation of this and will receive their Bulbs4Kids flower bulb kit in the autumn when the planting season begins. Flower bulb kits are suitable for children ages 6-12 (grades 1 through 6), the flower bulb kits are distributed only to primary schools in certain countries, only one kit is given to each primary school, and the supply of flower bulb kits is limited (first come, first served).
