At the heart of Kent's majestic Leeds Castle is a quaint courtyard with enough charm to give you shivers on any normal day but bring in buckets of quality Fleurametz flowers plus a team of Good Florist Guide designers and it's taken to a whole new level. This year’s Leeds Castle Festival of Flowers was themed around ‘Ladies Day’, something no one knows better than the lead designer tasked with creating this installation, GFG florist Morgan Nuth who owns Old Oak Floral Designers in Ascot.

His flower choice was inspired by feminine country gardens within the Royal Borough of Ascot, many of which his business regularly adorns with flowers, and the design featured arcs of flowers made in waves to create the illusion of movement. A 2m metal horse reared up at one end of the installation, an intricate structure supplied by Bakers Metal Art that Morgan had commissioned to be specially made for the event. His ‘Ladies Day’ horse was crowned with a soft pink and cerise floral garland fit for a winning horse at the races.

Hear Morgan telling us all about his creation in the video below.

It took two full days for Morgan and his team of GFG florists to create the installation, and as the festival lasts an entire week, a large-scale design like this takes long-term care as each test tube and block of foam had to be watered at intervals to keep flowers fresh.

Being a fairly confined space, in previous years the courtyard hasn’t been open for people walk around during festival opening times; so floral designs were only visible through overlooking windows. This year however, Morgan managed to convince festival organisers to open the door to the public so visitors could wander among the flowers, and it received much adoration from those who did.

Staunch GFG supporter Morgan Nuth, owner of Old Oak Floral Designers in Ascot and London, led the design team which was made up of eight fantastic florists who all volunteered to take part because they wanted to promote and strengthen the GFG brand while enjoying what was an amazing week of fun floral creativity. Enormous thanks go to the whole team; Morgan Nuth and Amanda Elliott from Old Oak Floral Designers, Karen Broxholme of Bluebells Lincoln, Keri Walker from Keri The Florist, Karen Lindsay from Flowers by Karen Kilmarnock, Laura Thompson from Pinks Florist Hazlemere, Nicola Roberts from Beau-k, and Karen Massey from Fleurtatious - who travelled all the way from Dublin to get involved.
