Leeds Castle ‘Festival of Flowers’ wins an Event of the Year award

Leeds Castle Festival of Flowers is an annual extravaganza not only growing in size and grandeur each year but now gaining awards and recognition in the process. The majestic Maidstone castle recently celebrated success at the Beautiful South Awards, when its Festival of Flowers was named Tourism Event/Festival of the Year.

Run by Tourism South East in partnership with Services for Tourism Ltd, the Beautiful South Awards  recognise outstanding achievement in the tourism industry over the previous 18 months.

Leeds Castle's Festival of Flowers, which attracts over 16,000 people each September, sees the castle adorned in lavish floral displays created by top florists and designers from across the UK and abroad with the Head Florist Louise Roots at the helm. 23 different areas across the castle grounds are decorated with the finest floral techniques, and this year the event hosted a number of special installations by Good Florist Guide members.

After the award win, Alysha Sargent, Head of Events at Leeds Castle said: “We’re so delighted to have been awarded Gold for Tourism Event/Festival of the Year. A year’s worth of planning goes into the Festival of Flowers, and each year it really does get bigger and better than ever; so it’s a real accolade to be recognised for such a prestigious award. Our Head Florist Louise Roots is also heavily involved in the design and planning process for the event, setting the theme and inviting the many top national and international floral designers to take part.”

This year was the sixth consecutive run of the popular Festival of Flowers at Leeds Castle with floral displays themed to ‘Ladies Day’ flooding 23 areas throughout the castle. Visitors to the festival were also able to enjoy a programme of floral demonstrations, specialist talks and daily garden tours, included as part of the entrance ticket. There was even a guest talk by English garden designer and television personality Joe Swift.

The 2019 event will be themed to ‘A Floral Party’ in celebration of the castle’s 900th anniversary.

Good Florist Guide won hearts at Leeds Castle in 2018

Flying the flag for Britain’s best florists, team Good Florist Guide created a spectacular large-scale installation in the castle courtyard complete with a huge iron horse and a floral waterfall topper. They also created as a magnificent moon-gate with cascading blooms to welcome visitors by the main castle lawn, on top of four very special window displays that took pride of place along a main castle corridor and were themed around four famous women. Once the festival had finished, team GFG went back to business running some of the very best flower shops in the country. Find out more about their designs and experiences here.
