Flower inspections relaxed till July 2021

FPC calls on Government Hero shotAs stated in Tuesday’s Editors Blog the Government have definitely decided to change the deadlines for flower inspections.

The news, which was released officially this morning (10.9.20) means that the fears of time consuming inspections and ergo delays on deliveries are removed until well after the all-important peaks are over and will give suppliers the chance to sort themselves out in a more timely manner.

Nigel Jenney, Chief Exec of the Fresh Produce Consortium, has been leading the way in asking for extensions along with other changes to make life easier for those involved in both the fruit and veg and flower and plant sectors.

Whilst broadly welcoming the news as a step forward and pleased FPC’s communications have had an impact in getting the sector through the peaks, Nigel points out that this does not exclude the need for immediate customs management as per the FPC guidance lists.  As such importers, exporters and wholesalers still need to be aware of what is needed on the paperwork side especially as some plants will require phyto and pre-notification from 1 Jan and subsequent UK plant passports.
