Flowers of Colombia link with local florists
Following the successful London event last month where flowers were handed out to commuters crossing London’s iconic Hammersmith Bridge, the Flowers of Colombia campaign moves to Sussex, Berkshire and Scotland.
Launched in September and working with growers, leading importers Optimus and Sunflora, key Colombian wholesalers Southeast Flowers, FleuraMetz and Johnstone & Scott and three retail florists who regularly buy the range, the campaign is designed to showcase the amazing range of flowers grown in Colombia as well as promote the diversity of the country and the incredibly strong social and environmental rules growers work to.
Nicola Evans (above left) who owns Beau-k in both Eastbourne and Battle and has just opened her new Flower School, isn’t just creating spectacular displays in her shops and linking up with her local independent coffee shop but also, in tribute to Colombia’s amazing emeralds, offering visitors to the installation a chance to win their own gem!
In Ascot, home of the world-famous racecourse, Flowers of Colombia Brand Ambassador Morgan Douglas Nuth (above centre) and owner of Old Oak Floral Designers is working with his local coffee shop to create the smell and taste of Colombia.
Up in Kilmarnock Karen Lindsay (above right) whose shop Karen's of Kilmarnock was voted Florist of the Year at the end of October in the BFA Industry Awards - is also aiming to entice visitors with a stunning installation and not only giving them a coffee cup of flowers but a cup of coffee as well!
In addition there will be some cool Colombian sounds and, of course, a chance for people to have their pictures taken with the wonderful Flowers of Colombia selfie frame!
Co-ordinated by the Association of Colombian Flowers Exporters, Asocolflores under the Flowers of Colombia brand and with funding from the Ministry of Agriculture, the campaign will link grower to florist and all points in-between to make sure all parts of the chain are working together to show consumers just what Colombia has to offer.
Commenting on the new campaign Eliana Alzate, Marketing & Communication Director for Asocolflores said; “The UK is our third most important market and it is important we work closely together to promote flower consumption. This new initiative is part of our 2019/2020 campaign to make sure everyone knows just how amazing our flowers are and what a difference they can make.”
Colombia first sent flowers into the UK some 40 years ago. Since then the product range has become a staple part of many flower shops with florists throughout the UK benefiting from longer, stronger and more vibrant flowers and at prices that have kept them competitive and profit making.
With growers producing new varieties every year … the new Thrill Carnation range from SB Tallee has been particularly well received this season … and a range that includes everything from Hydrangea the size of dinner plates, roses the size of coffee cups and alstroemeria as long as your arm, Flowers of Colombia have become the first choice for florists seeking above average blooms all year round.
What’s more, given flowers coming into the UK are from growers who are part of Florverde – the independent social and environmental standard approved by FSI - you can be sure that the flowers you buy aren’t just good for the people who work on the farms but the planet as well – another way of showing your customers you care and go the extra mile to buy the best.
