Tragic loss of young florist who touched hearts of many
It is with the greatest sadness we have to announce the tragic death of 29 year old Emma McDonald, owner of Stems in Innerleithen on the Scottish Borders. Emma, who was hiking with friends in her beloved countryside, suffered a massive cardiac arrest.
A member of Good Florist Guide since 2016, Emma was considered one of the brightest stars in the industry and her resolve and sense of purpose saw her not only build an award winning business and expand into new directions but be a proud mother of two gorgeous children Shyla and Cody and wife to Chris.
Her bridal work was exquisite ... indeed all her work was fabulous but she wasn’t just adored by her clients but by florists throughout the UK. Indeed her determination and motivation to look at every idea and possibility was admired by all who met her whilst her willingness to help and support her friends is something that will be sorely missed.
The tributes have flooded in on social media and having spoken to several of her friends by phone we know how special she was to so many; this message from Viv Bradford of Mrs B’s in Stamford summing up the shock and sadness felt by so many. “I’m heartbroken to lose my flowery friend who was such a talent and an inspiration. She was a very special lady, an amazing florist, sparky, no nonsense with a heart as big as the ocean.”
Hit hard by Covid which saw her lose over £40k of business, just two days ago Emma was able to get back to what she loved best - arranging wedding flowers. In her final Facebook message she not only said how happy she was to be back but ended her post saying “If Covid has taught me anything it’s to appreciate the simple things in life and enjoy the things we have around us.”
Prophetic words and ones we should all live by. Emma will be missed by so, so many .... our love and heartfelt sympathy to her family and friends.
Emma’s funeral was held on 26th August and although only a few were able to attend thousands shared their thoughts and memories via social media. The main tribute was created by friends and work colleagues Rach Lauder and Agata Gabryszak who made this stunning creation using flowers donated by Dutch wholesaler Arjan Teeuwen. We reckon Emma would have been very happy with it. Her cycling friends have also set up a Just Giving page so that her children can do the things Emma had planned for them - if you would like to donate click here
