Arena to be first CN flower business
Arena Flowers has pledged that it will become carbon neutral by the end of 2021. With the launch of its 2020 sustainability report*, the most ethical florist in the UK will join the ranks of Marks and Spencer, Aldi UK and Neal’s Yard to become the world's first carbon-neutral flower business.
Arena Flowers has a long history of ethical practices, as the only flower business in the UK with a perfect 100/100 score from the independent Ethical Index -– a position they’ve held for the last three years. In 2020, they dramatically reduced landfill by pioneering the industry’s first closed-loop waste system - a revolutionary process that salvages green waste turning it into organic, recycled and recyclable paper. In 2017, they became the first florist to ban single use plastics in all their packaging and in 2020 their entire workforce became carbon neutral; 12 months ahead of schedule.
“Our ethical approach has never been a box-ticking exercise or a marketing initiative, it’s at the very heart of what we do here at Arenaflowers.com”. said John Hackett, CEO at Arena Flowers. “It has become crystal clear that the climate emergency is no longer a distant concept. We all have a responsibility to take bold action, setting ever more ambitious targets, to reverse the damage and help heal our planet before it’s too late.’
By the end of 2021, Arena Flowers will have also planted over a million mangrove trees removing over 300,000 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. They will double the effectiveness of their water saving initiatives, becoming the world’s most water-efficient flower business and they will remove a further 100K carbon road miles from their delivery system.
The British florist prides itself on using a team of skilled florists and ensures that each bouquet is made up of beautiful seasonal flowers, with wild foliage and each one hand-tied. They have optimised their supply chain so that it’s as kind as possible to the people and the ecosystems they work within. In 2020 they also launched a new subscription flowers service, offering customers a bountiful amount of beautiful, fresh seasonal stems and complementary greenery to create stunning bouquets at home.
