Click and Collect allowed
The Government have updated their rules as of today to allow click and collect from retail shops not allowed to open. In an updated version of their Business Closure Guidance notes issued at 00.10 this morning they confirm that stores can operate click-and-collect services as long as orders are taken online, by telephone or via post.
The move will be welcomed by many florists but will require a degree of organisation to comply with the rules and regs as well as the ‘COVID-19 secure’ guidelines for safe working practices within a retail environment.
The amendment, which is effective as of today in England*1, was confirmed in an email to theflorist.co.uk from the BEIS*2 Press Office following Caroline Marshall-Fosters request for help from the Cabinet Office.
Outlining the amendment the BEIS advise online retail may continue. Stores can operate click-and-collect services as long as orders are taken online, by telephone or via post, and customers remain outside of the store to collect their goods. In this situation, as generally, businesses must operate with strict adherence to the social-distancing guidelines.
In the updated guidance notes it states; As before all retail, other than those exempt, must close their premises to members of the public. However, staff may be present to make deliveries or provide services in response to orders such as those through telephone, online, or mail. Click and collect services can also operate, though customers must not enter premises.
The BEIS also state they continue to work with stakeholders on developing sensible guidance for businesses that will give UK workers the utmost confidence on their return to work. They will now focus on sectors that are not currently open to help them plan for when they can open.
Speaking for theflorist.co.uk Caroline said: “Whilst I know this will be a relief for many florists, I would encourage readers to think how they are going to manage a click and collect service on a contactless basis and will be researching some ideas to help. In addition, and in preparation of the possible 1st June deadline for shops being allowed to open we are working with a number of florists and putting together a Checklist Charlie to cover the key points.”
