Do your florists, apprentices and students have what it takes to be named the best in the UK? Fast-track careers with WorldSkills UK Competitions.
The British Florist Association (BFA) and WorldSkills UK are looking for talented people from across UK Floristry as they launch their Skills Competitions for 2020.
Putting ‘employees’, ‘apprentices’ and ‘students’ practical skills, knowledge and employability attributes to the test in a competitive environment, WorldSkills UK Competitions are designed by industry experts and are free to enter. Participation in the competitions is proven to enhance an individual’s career prospects with 90% of entrants saying that they had seen improvements in their career prospects after taking part.
Sandie Griffith, National Floristry Competition organiser on behalf of the British Florist Association said; “Participating in WorldSkills competitions provides opportunities for competitors to develop critical skills, attributes and behaviours valued by employers such as problem- solving, self-reflection, time management and the ability to work under pressure. All vital skills in today’s floristry environment”.
Each successful entrant that makes it through the National Qualifiers, taking place between April and June 2020**, will proudly represent their college, employer or training provider in the National Finals held at WorldSkills UK LIVE. Attracting over 70,000 visitors, WorldSkills UK LIVE is the UK’s largest skills, apprenticeships and careers event which takes place from the 19 – 21 November at the NEC, Birmingham.
Celebrating the best of UK talent, national and even global recognition could await entrants as WorldSkills UK looks to invite those apprentices and students who excel in the competitions to join its talent development programme for the international WorldSkills Competition in 2023. Known as the ‘skills Olympics’ WorldSkills takes place every two years and sees over 1000 apprentices and students from around the world compete in over 50 different skills, including floristry, with the aim of being named the world’s best.
Ben Blackledge, Deputy Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said: “WorldSkills UK Competitions are proven to enhance apprentices’ and students’ technical and employability skills, giving them the
confidence to excel in their chosen career.”
