Augusto Solano enters USA Hall of Fame

Augusto Solano, President of the Association of Colombian Flower Exporters (Asocolflores), was inducted into the SAF Floriculture Hall of Fame in early August.   The USA industry’s highest honour was presented during the SAF Annual Convention in Phoenix, Arizona.

The SAF Floriculture Hall of Fame recognises individuals who exemplify the highest standards of service and responsibility in the floral industry. Since its inception, it has honoured leaders whose vision and dedication have left a lasting mark on global floriculture. Solano is the second Colombian to receive this distinction; the first was José (Pepe) M. de la Torre in 2001.

This recognition comes as Solano celebrates 25 years at the helm of Asocolflores, during which he has driven innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability in Colombia’s flower industry. Under his leadership, the association has developed and sustained programs that have strengthened the industry’s economic performance, generated employment, and fostered growth; promoted inclusion, equity, and well- being among workers; and championed environmentally responsible practices.

Internationally, Solano has been an active advocate for the Colombian floriculture industry, representing it in forums such as SAF, Union Fleurs, and other global associations. His leadership has consistently promoted a more sustainable floriculture globally, advanced environmentally responsible practices while fostering innovation across production, logistics, and market strategies. Through these efforts, Flowers of Colombia have reached new markets, strengthened their reputation for quality, and enhanced the industry’s global competitiveness.

Speaking after the presentation Augusto said "Receiving the SAF Floriculture Hall of Fame award at SAF Phoenix 2025 is both a great honour and a humbling moment in my career. This recognition is not only a personal achievement, but also a testament to the dedication, resilience, and passion of the Colombian floriculture industry—committed to excellence and positioned as a global benchmark."

This milestone not only honours Solano’s personal achievements but also reaffirms Colombia’s position as a global leader in floriculture and serves as evidence of the Colombian floriculture sector’s social and environmental commitment.

Asocolflores – who were also responsible for creating the world renowned Florverde programme will continue to build on this legacy, working hand in hand with its members and international partners to promote sustainable practices, drive innovation, and ensure that Colombian flowers remain a symbol of beauty, responsibility, and excellence around the world.
