Kirsty Noble scoops Newcomer Title
It was a roller coaster couple of weeks for Kirsty Noble when at the end of September, she became the British Florist Association Newcomer of the Year and a few days later opened her new shop BLÜM Floral in Bolsover, Derbyshire.
Sponsored by Smithers Oasis, the Newcomer category ran alongside the Florist of the Year and like them contestants had to take part in regional heats and only when all four had happened would find out if they had got through; pretty nerve wracking if you had taken part in the first one and had to wait several months!
At the finals they had four tasks; a Sash Design, Hand Tied, Table Design and finally a surprise design which was a funeral tribute.
The work was fabulous, and it was hard to realise that they had all had less than five years’ experience. But when it came to the final marking Kirsty took the lead and the title which was announced at the Awards dinner hosted by BFA Chair Nikki Meader and co-host Morgan Douglas Nuth.
To Kirsty – who we will be interviewing shortly when she’s a little less manic - huge congratulations. To all the other finalists, Mandy Bunnett (2nd), Ayla Farrelly-Jones (3rd), Katherine Holmes, Abby Dewhurst and Jaiden Abraham a huge round of applause … here’s to seeing you in future competitions!
