New General Manager for Covent Garden
Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA) has appointed Robert McAuliffe as its new General Manager, bringing over 20 years of experience in property operations, sustainability and strategic transformation to the helm of the UK’s largest wholesale market for fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Rob joins CGMA following a 5-year appointment as Head of Interface Management at The Arch Company, a £1.4 billion private-equity joint venture where he led operational programmes across a 5,200-property national portfolio and chaired the Senior Leadership Team. His work also involved close engagement with Network Rail, one of The Arch Company’s principal stakeholders - on-estate governance, operational compliance and strategic asset management across railway infrastructure.
At CGMA, Rob will oversee the operation and management of New Covent Garden Market in Nine Elms, home to more than 150 businesses that supply independent retail, catering and hospitality customers across London and the South East.
Chair of the Covent Garden Market Authority, Wanda Goldwag, (pictured with Rob above), said: “We are delighted to welcome Rob to CGMA. His extensive experience in property operations, sustainability and stakeholder engagement will be invaluable as we complete the redevelopment of New Covent Garden Market. Robert joins at a pivotal time, as we work to enhance the Market’s role at the heart of London’s food system, ensuring it remains a safe, efficient and world-class trading environment.”
Rob said: “New Covent Garden Market is not only one of London’s most important property assets, but also a cornerstone of its food supply network — connecting growers and wholesalers with the retailers and chefs who help keep the city fed and flourishing. I’m looking forward to working with the team, our tenants and our partners to ensure the Market remains a vibrant, safe and sustainable place to trade for generations to come.”
